Destiny versus Opportunity.

While learning about Oedipus and his fate I couldn’t stop thinking of him blinding himself and the words that came into my mind were “destiny versus opportunity”.
Was Oedipus’s life destined to such fate or couldn’t Jocasta turn this whole story and give him some opportunity?
He did not have a choice. His destiny or fate was already set up from the day that he was born, because some curse or prophecy or whatever that had influenced Jocasta and her decisions. She gave him away, to live or die. Not a choice or opportunity was given.
If we compare Oedipus’ tragedy by transporting it to the present , we see many Oedipus's all over the world, in misery and despair. Isn’t also because they had no choice, or could their parents make the choice and turn their whole destiny around. They probably wouldn’t have to blind themselves, not because they have slept with their mothers, but because the choices they had was in somebody hands.
