The Golden Ratio in our World

The other day, we discussed in class how the golden ratio appears in nature and the designs of structures. I never really took the time to observe my surrounds and look for the golden ratio. As I walked around campus yesterday, this concept of the golden ratio in structures became clear to me. I walked into the Wang Center and walked down the spiral stair case. All of a sudden, it hit me. This stair case was a perfect example of how the golden ratio is used when structures are built.
The golden ratio isn't limited to the design of structures, its appearance is eminent in nature. When you go to the beach and pick up a conch shell, the golden ratio appears. When your walking through your backyard and spot a snail, the golden ratio appears again. If we just take some time out of our busy schedules to take a look at the world, it allows our minds to be filled with things we never could have perceived before.
