Golden Ratio

Last week we talked about PHI or the Golden Ratio used by many Renaissance artists who based their paintings, sculptures, and even architectures from it. Reading more into it, I found out that there are many things from nature which exhibit this proportion. In short, they're not necessarily man-made.

Here are famous natural examples:

Flowers in general but the sunflower's center is most common.

And here are my own photos which I think has the golden ratio proportion:

The flower's center is a hexagon. They say the golden ratio occurs a lot in geometry.

Very recent pictures courtesy of SBU campus.

Most of the pictures above are plants. According to Wikipedia, these are disputed claims and that "While the golden ratio may be found in some proportions in some individuals at particular times in their life cycles, there is no consistent ratio in their proportions."
