People loves tragedy.
What is Oedipus Rex? a tragedy of hero and a tragedy of destiny. The inextricably oracle is the original cause of everything happened in Oedipus' life, which exhibits the summit of combination of heaven and human being.
Oedipus' charateristics are objectives what average person pursues but hard to reach, briefly, hero. Because many people are selfish, avaricious and deny responsibility, they want to find comfort in virtual world. So, heroes emerge, but heroes are usually with a life that turning upside down. Oedipus is the representative. He is a king who love all his people and look after the masses as if they were injured, should be reaspected supported, but choose to blind his eyes to punish himself. Although he didn't die a glorious death, the ending scene is desolate and sorrowful.
But, remember, what brings up a hero is also the heart that keep striving and never yielding.
Oedipus is a typical one that stubborn to challenge rules. He solves Sphinx's problem by the remarkble intelligence, and people of Thebes bow their heads to indicate they admire the ability. When Oedipus' accused density makes known to the world, he doesn't allow himself to shrink back, but bravely accept the density. Even though the sad feeling of "everybody is awake except me" occupied his heart, he take it without any hesitation.
People loves tragedy not only for the aesthetics that deeply affect readers, but also want to see how heroes against their miserable density.
