People

It's amazing just how many different kinds of people can all end up in one place with the same goal. Looking around at the crowds at six flags today, it was really interesting to see the mixing of so many cultures and economic levels of society. In one line you could find the kid with a blue mohawk with his septum, ears, lip, eyebrow and God knows what else pierced, followed by the African American teenage boys, followed by the group of poster girls for Abercrombie and Fitch, then a hispanic couple, etc. All of them standing on these ridiculous lines had one goal - to get the adrenaline rush of being thrown around like a paperweight by a really fast twisting and turning roller coaster. I think people love to feel out of control for these few short moments, which is why we are willing to wait 1 or 2 hours on these seemingly never-ending lines. To be able to just let go and enjoy the moment of being powerless is a great commodity in today's world when we can barely focus on one thing at a time long enough to fully engage. There was such a variety of people that at least on Long Island you really never see in one place. I travel often to the city, but I always think "Oh, it's the city it's one of the most diverse places in this country," whereas this amusement park is a simple day destination, not a place where people live, eat, sleep, and focus their whole lives around. I guess the thrill really does draw a diverse crowd, no matter the age, race, culture, sex or any distinguishing barriers i can think of.
