Social Media..Danger?

Social media was the topic that we discuss in the last Wednesday class. Here are some of my thoughts on social media. Facebook, twitter, blogger are all example of today's popular social media. Almost everybody has an account for them, not only teenage but also adult. Benefits of it are many, like getting people close together , being able to get in touch with people easier, able to share information among other in a timely manner. However, on the other hand, it gets a lot of disadvertage also, like allowing many others to explore your privacy, letting strangers get to know you. Everything just go way too public. Some people write about their dates, where they at, where they are going on for the trip, their emotional feelings toward something or someone. They just write anything that they thought of. It is just like a new trend for this entire generation: putting your privacy out there to share it to the global. From time to time, we have been heard of a lot of nasty news about how some innocent teenages putting their inapproriate pictures, videos and words on the web and getting troubles from it. They did it without thinking about the consequences. Some think that they are just sharing it to a mechine and nobody would get hurt. On the other hand, some think they are proud of what they did. Lack of education is the main source of all these. Yet, who really should take the blame? For the most part, it is obvious that the person who did it should be to blame. Everybody should take responsible to their action except those "innocent one". Who are the innocent? For those who are not well educationed I consider them as innocent. On the other hand, I think the society should take the other half of the blame. In nowadays' society, there appears a big gap between parents and their children. The reason for this is that parents are too busy with their work and they do not have time to spend with their children. As a result, teenagers always leave alone at home with a computer. Yet, parents neglect the fact that a computer is a machine that "consist of many wires" and they should take cautions when using it and letting their children use it. If children were taught that computer is full of danger, there would be less misfortunes happened. It makes sense for people to learn how to use an oven; then it should make sense for people to learn how to use a computer.
